The story behind Wonderland

Those of you who enjoy my poems may like to know that there’s now a book of my poetry available, “Wonderland”. There are 54 poems published including some that have appeared on this blog and also the one below – Wonderland.

My poem was inspired by seeing a carpet of clouds from the window of an aeroplane. It is called a ‘specular’ or ‘mirror’ poem.  You may notice that the poem is repeated halfway through – but backwards!

I am hoping that ‘Wonderland’ will be in the book shops next year. If you would like to buy a copy before then, please contact me through this blog.

Thank you!

Wonderland

Outside the plane

The clouds are like snow drifts

I think I could walk out there

Tiptoeing on the clouds

Floating gently away

Like a dragonfly over a pond

I am floating

The clouds part

And I view the shimmering sea

As we start our downward drop

Out of the clouds

Out of the other world

And back to reality

Like Alice

Going through the mirror

Out of Wonderland

Out of Wonderland

Going through the mirror

Like Alice

And back to reality

Out of the other world

Out of the clouds

As we start our downward drop

And I view the shimmering sea

The clouds part

I am floating

Like a dragonfly over a pond

Floating gently away

Tiptoeing on the clouds

I think I could walk out there

The clouds are like snow drifts

Outside the plane
